A weekend in Miami? Sleep is no longer an option, so stock up on those coffee drinks and head to South Beach!
Accommodation– You're only going to use your room to store your luggage, shower and change so forget about facilities and focus on location. Collins Avenue, right on the beach is where you want to be. Though it's worth remembering that the luxury hotels (like Fontainebleau, the W, and the Delano) can arrange amazing perks for their guests including VIP entry, priority reservations, and amazing discounts. If they're a little pricey try the cute Hotel La Flora.

Friday – After dumping your bags in your hotel room slip on your swimsuit and designer shades, grab the SPF 15 and head straight to the pool or beach to work on your tan. When hunger strikes head to Wet Willies frozen margarita bar at 760 Ocean Drive for their famous Tequila Wings and extensive frozen drink menu. Be careful they are pretty strong! If you're not too tipsy wander down Lincoln Road to check out its collection of stores, galleries, and cafes. After a quick shower shimmy into your sexiest party gear for the 8pm dinner and dance extravaganza at Mango's Tropical Cafe at 900 Ocean Drive. If the sexy senoritas and pulsating Latin rhythms get too much LIV at the Fontainebleau resort (4441 Collins Ave) keeps the bottles poppin' until 5am. Take in your first Miami sunrise on the beach then go for breakfast at the 24hr Jerry's Deli (1450 Collins Ave) before heading back to your hotel room to shower and select your swimsuit for morning cocktails by the pool.
Saturday and Sunday – After a spending the morning drinking mimosas by the pool jump on the shuttle bus to the elite Bal Harbour shopping area where you can stock up on your Marc Jacobs, get a massage, or do lunch while watching Miami's most beautiful and wealthy in their natural habitat. If you manage to get your hands on them (this is when a concierge can become your best friend!) tickets to watch Miami Heat is a must! NBA season runs from November until June, but from April playoffs start so getting tickets can be impossible. Glam up for cocktails a view straight out of CSI Miami at Modrian's Sunset Lounge (1100 West Ave) and while you're there pick up some souvenirs from BASE 24/7 the coolest vending machine in the world. At 1am jump in a cab and roll downtown to Space, the best afterhours spot in Miami and watch the sunrise as you dance till 11am on the roof terrace. Then bundle everyone in a cab back to South Beach to continue the party at Nikki Beach (1 Ocean Drive) before rocking your most scandalous swimsuit for one of Miami's famous Sunday pool parties at Acqualina or the Shore Club. If after all of that you're still standing you deserve a round of applause!

Giving back is good for the soul. So when you're thinking of booking your next break, try a volunteering holiday to recharge your soul as well as your batteries.
Animal conservation breaks – Whether you're raising lion cubs in South Africa, or helping with sea turtle conservation in Costa Rica or Sri Lanka - an animal conservation is a great way to get back to nature, particularly if you're tired of people talking back to you all the time.
Building abroad - If you don't mind getting your hands dirty and want to see immediate results, then a building project is the perfect fit. Projects include building schools in and homes in Africa, Asia, South America or even the Himalayas. One thing is for sure your contribution on this project will be remembered and appreciated forever.
Working with children – They say that the children are our future; a few weeks spent nurturing underprivileged children in some of the world's poorest place will change their lives and yours. Whether you're teaching orphans in Cambodia or working with disabled children in Bali it is guaranteed that children will not be the only ones learning.
Sports coaching – Your contribution here can play an important part in developing the skills of young athletes across the globe. This is also a great way for you to burn off some excess energy or pick up a new skill. Opportunities include coaching soccer in Argentina, teaching township children to surf in Cape Town, and coaching athletics in Swaziland.

Where to Get the Rush

For adrenaline junkies, extreme sports like bungee jumping and sky diving provide that exhilarated feeling: the butterflies, the lump in the throat, the extreme rush. If you are an adrenaline seeker, here are some destinations where you will be sure to get your fix.
For sky divers, a prime destination is Lake Taupo in New Zealand. What makes this dive that much more of a rush is that you're plummeting towards one of New Zealand last active volcanoes. Dives are made at around 15,000ft, giving you over a minute of free fall.
While you are adventure seeking in New Zealand, you should try zorbing. That is rolling down a hill in a large inflatable sphere.
Egypt offers sand surfing. It's not quite as refreshing as surfing an ocean wave, but you still get the rush. While you're on your board, a fair few adventure seekers get a thrill off surfing Australia's waves. The reason these provide extra thrill points is because of the rocky shore, and strong currents.
Top bungee destinations include Switzerland's Verzasca Dam, said to be the highest dam in the world with a fall of 220 meters. Don't worry, James Bond jumped here before you. (Remember that scene from Golden Eye?) Victoria Falls on the Zambia/Zimbabwe border is another great place to take the plunge. The fall is about half the height of Verzasca Dam, but you're plunging down towards a raging river, and a rocky mountain.
For the Tarzans among us, there are some breath-taking forests to soar through. Durango, Colorado is a gorgeous evergreen forest, full of wild life. Belize offers the tropical variety of the same. Both are very satisfying in terms of achieving ‘the rush'.

See the World for Less

First off, it starts out with some vigorous internet searching. There are numerous sites where you can find great deals on flights, especially to popular tourist destinations. If you are flexible in your times of travel, and even destinations, you can score a round trip for a decent price that shouldn't take up too much saving.
The next major travel expense is accommodation. Right from the get go you must rule out the big hotel chains. Sometimes resorts offer all inclusive accommodation packages for surprisingly low prices, if you hunt around. The real money saver is going to be the local hostels and hotels. Many of us cringe at the mention of these establishments, picturing dingy, vermin infested hovels. This is not the case. Most hostels are clean, convenient and, above all, cheap, or at least affordable.
Food costs can be greatly reduced by not eating out for every meal. Many hostels have on-site cafes and even kitchens which guests can use. Finding out where locals eat is a great way to save, and sample truly authentic local cuisine.
Befriending the locals can also open up many great sightseeing experiences for a very low cost or even no cost at all. Discretion is always advised.
Travelling with a friend or two is a good way to reduce expenses such as food and accommodations. It is also safer, and provides a great shared experience.

5 Must Take Trips

We live in a world full of wonder. From magnificent natural spectacles to ancient masterpieces, to modern icons and architectural feats, there is more to see than time and money allow, for most of us at least. Here are a few places that you may want to add to your “bucket list:”
The Grand Canyon
If you are overawed by nature, then the Grand Canyon is a must see. To truly take in the wonder you need to trek it, experience the sunrise from its rim, explore some of its crevices, and walk along the basin. A three day trek through the Grand Canyon should just about satisfy the fascination.
Serengeti
This is the ultimate Safari. Wildebeests, zebras and gazelles migrate across the nearly 500km “land of endless space” known as the Serengeti. Depending on the time of year you visit, what you witness will vary, but you will see more animals in their natural habit and cycle of survival than just about anywhere else on the planet.
The Great Wall of China
Visitors to the Great Wall usually come away feeling small, as the sheer scale of it is hard to grasp. Expect to feel the smallness of one person, and the magnitude of what hundreds, or even millions of people can achieve.
Galapagos Islands
These islands are home to a collection of wildlife that is not found together anywhere else on Earth. Visitors should be mindful of the delicate balance of nature, and do their best to preserve it.
Venice
Nature, architecture and history. A lot of ambiance and culture. A cruise down the canals of Venice is a memory you won't soon forget.

Europe’s City Gems

Europe provides a rich playground for the discerning traveller, with a vast number of countries in close proximity to each other offering a diverse range of rich cultures and histories.
Some cities spring to mind easily, Berlin, London, Paris and Rome for example, all for good reason. However there are plenty of equally fabulous cities that you might not be so familiar with that are worth visiting just as much, if not more.
Here we list the top 5 lesser-known gems:
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Opposite the Italian coast on the Adriatic, lies another sun-drenched, beautiful country, that of Croatia. Post civil war, it has now burgeoned into one of Europe's most desirable holiday destinations. Most notable is the city of Dubrovnik. Housed within stunning medieval walls lies an abundance of old world charm and atmosphere. Many cafes and shops adorn the main street, Placa, and there's even a sandy beach for sun seekers.
Krakow, Poland
Steeped in history in culture, this is an up and coming destination for those in the know. As well as providing an ideal base for visiting the museum site of the Auschwitz concentration camp, Krakow itself is full of things to do and see. Simply wander around, soak up the historic architecture and visit the swathe of cafes. There are also numerous museums and plenty of art galleries to visit. Krakow is very much a city in love with art – be sure not to miss the exceptional Gallery of the Twentieth Century Polish Art.
Riga, Latvia
Another picturesque Eastern European city - but without the unwelcome abundance of hen and stag parties you might find in similar cities like Prague. 800 year old cobbled streets are a joy to meander through, and be sure to visit the city's many churches and marvel at their world renowned architecture. Riga's nightlife is not to be missed either, with many bars offering a cool and relaxed vibe – perfect after a day of sightseeing.
Edinburgh, Scotland
Although you can't rely on its weather, Edinburgh is a must-see for culture vultures and lovers of architecture. Take in the view of the city from the famous ‘Arthur's seat', the main peak of Holyrood Park, and from there head into the famous city centre crowned by Edinburgh castle. If you're able to, head to the city during August for its yearly festival; a huge international showcase of comedy, theatre, and musical performances.
Copenhagen, Denmark
A lot of people are aware of Copenhagen, but it often slips off the radar when it comes to visiting European cities. Avoid the crowds heading to more well-travelled Venice or Rome, this is a place for a less obvious romantic break. This beautiful, historic and and decidedly quirky town is also home to the world's current top restaurant, Noma, focusing on natural ingredients sourced from the wilderness.

Summer Holiday: Barcelona

Are you looking for a holiday that will offer something more than the usual package of a hotel with a beach in the middle of anywhere? Perhaps you're looking for a summer getaway that will also include some cultural highlights and good food. If so, look no further than Spain's metropolitan Barcelona.
The beauty of Barcelona is that whilst it offers one of Europe's top city break destinations, it also has a beach, making it a perfect choice for a cultural summer sun break. You can easily spend a week or more there, and there's something for all age ranges to do. .jpg)
For most visitors, one of the city's main draws is the food. You will find a plethora of tapas bars and restaurants ranging from pinxto (small, bite-size snacks on cocktail sticks) bars to fine dining restaurants. The pinxto bars have delectable delights laid out across the bar for you to help yourself to whilst ordering a glass of wine or sherry. Whilst some have restaurant areas towards the back, the best and most popular way to eat is around high bar tables, standing or on high stools. Always busy, the norm is to take in a few bars in an evening, moving from one to the other with a few snacks along the way. You'll find these all over the city; there's a great selection in close proximity to one another in the Barri Gotic. Most famous of these is Cal Pep, also recommended is buzzing El Xampanyet.
In addition to the famed gastronomic experience, Barcelona has a great artistic and cultural scene. From one of its most famous residents, you can see much of Picasso's work at the Picasso Museum, handily located in the Barri Gotic. You will also see much of Miro's work scattered throughout the city; making a great game for the children to try and spot them all. Of course, no trip to Barcelona would be complete without taking in Gaudi's formidable Sagrada Familia or his Park Guell on the outskirts. The panoramic views of the city are incredible; also offering a scenic outdoor space for the kids to run around in if they need a break from city sightseeing.
For families, there is always plenty to see and do. The zoo is easily accessible by metro hosting a vast array of animals, filling up a memorable day of your trip. Additionally there are loads of play parks in the city, often conveniently located next to places to eat and shop – giving you the perfect excuse to mix playtime for both parents and kids!
The beach itself is spectacular, with golden sand stretching right up the famed eateries around the promenade. If you would prefer to get out of the city altogether however, the beach resort of Sitges is a mere 40 minutes away by train.
Whatever your needs and whatever your length of stay, Barcelona is sure to captivate you and have you returning again and again.

Holidays in Latin America

With the economy showing no signs of recovery, we thought now was a good time to highlight which destinations in South and Central America offer the best value for money.
For some it is simply a cheap place to travel whilst for others it is what you do when you are there that makes it a ‘value for money' destination.
In order to get the lowest price for your holiday book your flights early. This will secure the cheapest seats allowing you spend your hard earned cash on the hotels you want. Once at your chosen country avoid too much moving around as transfers to and from places can push your price up quickly.
Nicaragua. International flights are reasonable priced, cost of food is low and general travel is inexpensive.
Bolivia. The cheapest country in South America though you may pay a little more for the airfare to get here.
Mexico. We recommend hiring a car which is the cheapest way to get around but it also gives you the freedom to explore the Yucatan Peninsula on your own.
Brazil. Fly directly into the north east of the country to Salvador, Natal or Fortaleza and avoid Rio de Janeiro will save you money on your airfares.
Honduras. By combining the Bay islands and Pico Bonito and using the ferries from the mainland to link the two you can catch a bargain.
